Shir Hadash

The Reconstructionist Havurah of Greater Boston

is an egalitarian congregation affiliated with the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation. From September through June it meets almost every Shabbat at 1310 Centre Street in Newton, Massachusetts.*

Services start at 9:45 and generally finish around 12:00, followed by a kiddush. There is a Junior Congregation and activities for younger children during the adult services. (Children are always welcome at the adult service, but many prefer the children's activities.)

We welcome everyone, and encourage everyone to participate in the service; if you would like to learn to daven, to lead services, to read Torah, we are happy to help you learn. In addition to our regular adult education programs, we offer classes in basic prayer book Hebrew, service leading, Torah and haftarah reading, and how to be a gabbai (how to organize and run a service).

Call (617) 965-6862 for more information.

[*We sometimes meet elsewhere, when we need more space for a special occasion. We encourage you to call or send email for the latest information.]

Our Reconstructionist study group meets once a month, usually on the second Monday. This year, we are studying the prophets from a Reconstructionist perspective. The first discussion in the series will feature the prophet Amos and will take place on Monday evening, 9 December. For more information, check our adult education page, call (617) 964-9764, or send email.
