The birding listserves in these parts have been buzzing for days about a Western Reef Heron in Maine. It showed up 2 weeks ago in Nova Scotia and caused quite a stir there. Then it showed up in Maine. This afternoon it was being seen in Portsmouth, NH . Tantalizingly close to Massachusetts... It's obviously moving south. What are the odds it could show up on Plum Island? I knew my cheap ($4.98) used copy of Birds of India might come in handy someday. Just what are those odds? Anything can happen . Meanwhile I gotta figure out how to meet my deadlines at Gray Cubicle World and simultaneously drive up to Portsmouth to twitch. What was that I was claiming about not being a twitcher.
