I drove past the Andover office of the IRS on the way home this afternoon. The huge time/temperature display out front claimed it was 91 degrees. Isn't it supposed to be 40 degrees and raining the day after tax day?

In other "what's wrong with this picture" observations, the umm, Red Sox, are in umm, first place after beating the Toronto Blue Jays infinity to something tonight.

Maybe the chorus in Cinderella was right: don't believe what sensible people say.

In other randomness, I finished Mount Hope yesterday. I was sorry to have it end. Those reprobate founding families of Bristol were entertaining companions. Check out my little mini-review in my booklist.

I was talking on the phone with Cat Shelter Bob (as opposed to the 10 thousand other Bobs including the one in the Balkans and the singing group...) tonight and he was telling me about his first plover warden shift of the season. I guess he had a couple of unpleasant people to deal with right off the bat. Non-believers or unbelievers or something. They just simply didn't believe they could'nt walk on the beach. Anyway, he said there are 16 piping plovers (or was that pairs?) on the refuge beach and 1 on Sandy Point so far. I really miss being out there on the beach in all kinds of weather dealing with all kinds of people and all kinds of birds, but there's no way I can do it this year. Sigh.

In cat news, Mrs. Ripley, who'd been there about three years, got adopted a week or so ago. I think I forgot to mention that in this infrequently updated journal. Bob and I were talking about her tonight too 'cause he always made a special point of petting her every time he was in the shelter. Maybe all that extra attention finally convinced her to be interested in people. Anyway, we're happy for her and Bob kind of misses her.

The power stayed on at the starship today despite the hot weather. That was a highlight I guess.
