There is absolutely nothing like the solitary pleasure of listening to the Red Sox beat the Yankees on crackly AM radio on a balmy Friday night in April unless it's listening to the Red Sox beat the Yankees on a warm and breezy Saturday afternoon in April. In between ball games I read a lot of Mount Hope, did errands, walked with the walking buddies, drank coffee in various of the usual haunts and got a report from Hussein on sightings of Dan & Geri and also of George - all of whom apparently still drink coffee even without me. I disproved Philosophy Larry's claim - left on my voice mail - that nobody at Starbucks remembered me when the manager and couple of the baristas asked how the new job (not so new anymore) is going and how that steam driven rocket ship tea kettle Kate gave me is working. After this afternoon's game I went out to dinner with Nancy at Minerva's - incredible spaghetti with eggplant - and read aloud to her the more entertaining parts of Mount Hope. Boy, oh, boy, Bristol was a regular soap opera in the early 19th century and some of those deWolfs were not exactly on the right side of the law. Who knew history was so much fun?
