One of the M's (you remember M&M and their son Marco) gave a gallery talk at the opening of an exhibit of his collages at the Andover Historical Society. I hadn't seen any of his work before tonight and it was nothing at all like I expected, but utterly fascinating. He makes use of religious imagery from a variety of the world's religions, even some of the obscure ones, and juxtaposes them in ways that create a fresh view of spirituality. His talk was accompanied by slides including works that aren't in the exhibit, so it was a little more of a retrospective. Very cool.

That's cool in the hip sense, not the temperature sense. It was hot out today and my house stayed hot as did the Historical Society so I worked up quite a sweat just listening to the talk and drinking some lemonade afterwards. Anyway, M's collages reminded me of some of Tom's weirder poems. When I said that, Tom agreed quite readily.

On a whole nother subject, BusyBody seems to have reappeared after a 2-week absence. I am soooo glad I took advantage of that window of opportunity to work in my yard hacking down the sumac and bittersweet while she was gone. Now that she's back, the yard work will have to wait unless I hire somebody to do it. That's assuming she wouldn't hassle a professional landscaper, not necessarily a safe assumption. Anyway, the yard looks a whole lot better for now without the major sumac invasion.
