this time of worship and prayer at Hale House, a retirement community in the

ENJOY “RAGTIME” & SUPPORT MATCH-UP:
On Sunday, April 30, Match-Up Interfaith Volunteers, an organization which
coordinates services for the elderly and disabled in greater Boston, and
“Ragtime” will team up for a fun fundraiser. The evening begins at 5:30 with
a silent auction held during a wine and cheese reception at the Arsenal
Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown. Red Sox tickets, gift
certificates to some of the best restaurants in the Boston area, and long
weekends in resort locations are just some of the exciting items on the
block. This is followed at 7:30 by an off-Broadway quality performance of
the musical “Ragtime”. Tickets for the event are $75 and can be purchased by

BLANKET DRIVE:  The Christian Service and Outreach Committee is sponsoring a
Blanket Drive each Sunday during February. A table will be set up in the
Chapel after Early Service and during Fellowship Hour. Members will be given
the opportunity to purchase blankets for $6.00 each. In 2005, with our
efforts, 150 of Boston’s homeless were provided with warmth. We would like
to increase that number this year, and hope that you will participate to
make this happen.

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING  Sunday, March 26
One Great Hour of Sharing is the special mission offering of the United Church of Christ that channels resources to international programs for sustainable development, emergency relief, social services, and refugee advocacy and resettlement. OGHS also supports ministries both domestically and internationally for disaster preparedness and response. Ninety-five cents of every dollar goes directly to mission efforts! Old South will join churches from the UCC and seven other denominations in this special offering on Sunday, March 26. A special envelope is included in this Calendar. Give generously to support our brothers and sisters across the world.

BAZAAR & BAKE SALE AT HALE HOUSE: (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE)
Tuesday March 21 commencing at 9:00 am. Hale House, a residential program
providing support services of exceptional quality for a diverse older
population is collecting donations of gently used household items and
clothing for their upcoming Bazaar. Please drop off items at 273 Clarendon
Street until March 16.

GREATER BOSTON INTERFAITH ORGANIZATION (GBIO) BROWN BAG LUNCH AND
DISCUSSION: Sunday, February 12, at 12:45 pm in the Samuel Johnson Room.
What is GBIO, anyway? Why is Old South Church a member?  And what kinds of
opportunities for involvement are there?  This is the perfect opportunity to
learn more about this vital social justice ministry, what we’re up to and
how to become involved. Cheri Andes, Lead Organizer for GBIO, will present
an overview of the organization’s work and mission, and then we’ll discuss
the many opportunities for Old South’s—and your—involvement.  Grab a takeout
lunch after church and come join us!

MISSION TRIPS-HELP WITH HURRICANE RECOVERY: There is a MACUCC trip for youth 16 and over planned for July 30-August 5, 2006. Cost per person is $750,
which includes air fare, ground transportation, food, fee to stay at the
Good Shepherd Church in Metairie, Louisiana, and materials. The Outreach
Committee and the Pitcher sisters are offering scholarships to folks
interested in these trips. Contact Peter Boyle at 781/878-8009. These trips
are organized and sponsored by the Massachusetts Conference, UCC.

The Christian Service & Outreach Committee
established the following goals for 2005:

1. Expand our partnership with St. Mary's Shelter and with the One Family Campgaign to End Homelessness.

2. In collaboration with the Christian Education Committee and others, consider offering one week of Summer Vacation Bible School.

3. Do a better job of informing our members of OS Outreach efforts by organizing a Moment for Mission each month, providing a brief summary of the agencies we support in the weekly bulletin, and organizing four educational forums.

4. Organize a fundraiser for Tsunami relief.

5. Investigate the possibility of a church partnership possibly involving an after-school tutorial or job training program.

6. Increase the size of the committee.

7. Strengthen our liaison relationships with the agencies we support.
