Christian Service & Outreach Grants for 2003

Based on their mission and Grant Application Request, the Council of Old South Church
has approved $86,000 in grants to the following agencies as reviewed and
recommended by the Christian Service & Outreach Committee.

to expand affordable hoosing opportunities. create intergenerational communities. and develop inn0vatix.e models of housmg. budding onstrengths of elders, families, and people with disabilities. Housing Search and Resident Services
to foster the wellness of all HIV p0sitiL.e people and respond to the changing needs of the HIV/AIDS community. Through peer leadership and support, we enhance and enrich the lives of our members by 
providing support services, education, and treatment information with the goal of empowering members to live uroductive lives and to participate in their families and communities.
Design and print and HIV/AIDS specific curriculum.
to serve the unmet physical, emotional and spiritual needs of seafarers in New England. Stipend for ship visiting seminarian intern
building a violence-free world through the provision of innovative residential community services for battered women and their children. Support for the Guest Resource Center for battered women and their children.
to develop permanent housing and social service options for homeless elders; identify elders at risk of becoming homeless; increase public awareness of the problem of elder homelessness; advocate for homeless elders; and resolve the problem of elder homelessness in the Greater Boston area and beyond. Funding for replacement items such as towels, linens and mattresses in
elders’ apartments.
to bring together people from across economic, religious, racial, and ethnic boundaries so that in partnership we can work more effectively for a just society. Sustain and build capacity for Urban-Suburban partnerships program (USSP)
to join people who are homeless and those who are housed in worship, Pastoral care, teaching, mission, study, recovery, and other aspects of community. General support for outreach programs for the homeless men and women of Boston.
to prevent the institutionalization and fiuther victimization of women in emotional distress and their children through the provision of safe shelter and support services. Support for programs in the Parent-Child Center.
a Christian-based, volunteer-driving housing ministry, seeking to eliminate poverty housing. Arrowhead Habitat Homes Site on Blue Hill Ave. in Dorchester.
to provide residential and supportive services of exceptional quality for a diverse older population. Funding to help restore or purchase 1919 Steinway, restoration will cost $25,000.00.
to improve the live of homeless children and their families by offering nurture and stimulation and education opportunities to homeless children, by connecting their parents with the tools they need to achieve social and economic self-sufficiency, and by advocating for homeless children and their families with policy makers and the public. General support of Community Children’s Centers 
dedicated to providing a warm supportive environment for all people affected by AIDS in Worcester County. Provide daytime activities, companionship and a place to relax. Recreation fund
provides free, private, confidential tutoring in basis reading and writing, and ESOL for adults and out-of-school youths over 16 through trained volunteers. Support for Project Lighthouse,
LVM’s program for homeless adults at several shelters.
to relieve isolation and loneliness among the elderly by providing for the emotional as well as the physical needs of Boston’s low-income at-risk elders. Support for On-Call Emergency Services Program
FIAT aims to train, organize and mobilize members of faith
communities adoss the state to become involved in seeking more permanent solutions to homelessness by participating in the Coalition’s public policy campaigns using a faith-based reflection/action process.
Support of efforts to shaping the future of affordable housing at a local level.
to heal the divisions among Christian churches for the sake of the world around us, focusing particularly on ecumenical and inter-religious life in MA Funding for special symposium on Christian perspectives about inter-religious relations in cooperation with Orthodix, Protestant and RC.
Will be inter-Christian event.
to enhance the lives of frail and isolated elders and disabled adults and prevent unnecessary institutionalization by providing friendly visitors, assistance with tasks of dailv living. and medical escorts, to provide educational programs on aging and accessing health care.
General operating support.
to meet the immediate physical, medical, and social needs of its homeless, aged, and impoverished guests. Support for two meals programs and Food pantry
committed to men, women, and children in need of shelter, sustenance, and the basic moral and material supuorts necessary to lead a dignified and stable life. Small Necessities Fund, i.e. clothing
and toiletries that need to be new and are rarely donated.
  • Race Watch
to educate, advocate and speak out against hate, racism, violence, discrimination and intolerance  Project to educate young black males that violence is destructive.
to serve the needs of asylum seekers and those detained by the U. S. Immigration Service through social services, pastoral care, and advocacy. Funding to continue building network of clusters that offer basic social services to immigrants.
to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. general operating support
  • Senior Connect Inc. 
to generate social capital for the repair of our civil society by empowering elders to take charge of their environments. Operating support.
to care for those who cannot help themselves and to assist those who are capable of becoming self-functioning members of society. Complete Breakfast Program, provides hot breakfast daily to several hundred
very poor and homeless men and women.
Provides comprehensive job training for women working to make a Support for new healthcare training transition to employment. Support for new healthcare training program
to enhance the quality of life of each individual serves by the provision of accessible, comprehensive, innovative, culturally competent health and human services. Bedroom Beautification
to provide a safe and comfortable daytime refuge. nutritious food and basic resources for women who are poor and homeless.  Purchase underwear and bras for 200 women on a monthly basis.
