Alton F. Armington

Dr. Alton Fearing Armington, Ph.D., 78, of Nashua, formerly of Lexington, MA, died at Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua on April 29, 2006.

Mr. Armington was born on September 20, 1927, in Everett, Massachusetts, son of the late Everett A. and Sarah Catherine (Edmonston) Armington. He has been a resident of Nashua since December 2004, prior to which he had been a resident of Lexington, MA for 45 years.

He was the husband of Faith (Goldsmith) Armington.

Dr. Armington was a research director at RADC (Rome Air Development Command), US Air Force at Hanscomb Field for 30 years. He held many patents and authored many technical papers specializing in crystal growth. He was an adjunct professor at Oklahoma State University.

He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed classical music and at one time was a member of a recorder group. He also liked to travel with his wife.

He was an active member of the Hancock United Church of Christ in Lexington, Massachusetts. He was a member for over 47 years, and served on several committees. He has served as treasurer, a deacon and also was active with the Bible study group.

He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Boston University, his Masters in Physical Chemistry from Tufts University and his Ph.D. in fuel technology from Penn State.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, and served during World War II.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a two daughters and sons-in-law, Laurel and Stephen Lang of Hollis, NH, and Wendy and Steve McDougall of Littleton, MA; six grandchildren, Adlai, Daphne, Sadie and Charlotte Lang of Hollis, NH and Ian and David McDougall of Littleton, MA; his twin brother and sister-in-law, Allan and Frances Armington of Fitchburg, MA.

Services

There are no visiting hours.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at the Hancock United Church of Christ, U.C.C., 1912 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, MA on Saturday morning at 11:00. Friends and family are invited to attend.

Interment prayers and burial will be private.
