Planning Your Wedding

WHAT IS THE CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENT?

The Sacrament of Marriage is the celebration of one person's love and loyalty given to another until death. Marriage is a mirror of Jesus' love and fidelity to the Church. Marriage is not only a celebration for the couple and his or her family, but for the whole Church.

The exchange of vows constitute the Sacrament of Marriage. This usually is celebrated within the context of the Eucharist. In certain circumstances the Sacrament of Marriage can take place outside the Eucharist.

The couple are the ministers of the sacrament of marriage. The priest serves as a witness for the Church. Some couples have relationships with priests outside the parish. You can extend an invitation to him to preside at your wedding. We ask you to notify the Marriage Co-ordinator if you wish to do so. Priests from outside Massachusetts may need to get diocesan or legal faculties, or both, to meet civil or church regulations.
