[Brief rant enclosed. Please do not read if you are expecting humor.]

I heard on the news this morning (as no doubt many of you did) that researchers claim to have discovered a gene which, when damaged, causes shortness (defined as under 5'4" in men and under 5' in women). Now I may whine about being 4'11", but I always thought my height was a product of regressive (not to be confused with recessive) genes, not some sort of abnormality. And I fiercely resent the newscasters' vision of a brave new world in which children can be treated to prevent them from turning out JUST LIKE MEEEEEEE!!!!

PS I read a little more on the subject later in the day, and the evidence was underwhelming enough that I don't feel like a HID3()US MUTANT anymore. The newscasters better watch out though.
