School/Group Tours
The Mandarin
Museum & Historical Society offers guided tours to school groups
and others throughout the year by advance reservation. Tours are led
by knowledgeable and trained docents and can be tailored to the
needs of the group.
The park and
buildings are handicapped accessible. The farmhouse is located about
a three-to-five minute walk from the parking lot along a paved path.
The farmhouse is not air-conditioned and can be very hot during the
summer months.
School tours
normally run from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Many of the students are in
the fourth grade and the field trip augments the Florida history
curriculum. A morning tour normally can accommodate about 60
students. They visit to the old Mandarin Store and Post Office, the
Mandarin Community Club, and the Walter Jones Historical Park, which
features the 1875 farmhouse. Starting in fall 2003, tours will also
visit the new Mandarin Museum.
Picnic
facilities and restrooms are available in the park. Some classes end
their field trip with a picnic at Mandarin Park, which has a
playground, picnic facilities, restrooms and riverfront dock.
Reservations
should be made at least four weeks in advance. An information packet
is available.
