One Week Down, One To Go

My relatives will be leaving tomorrow evening; I'm sad to see them off, but at the same time it will also be nice to move into the second week of vacationing, where we can just enjoy the time and not have to worry about guests and such.

The Quest For Tan

I went and did it - 80 minutes in the sun today with SPF 15. It doesn't seem like I've suffered any ill effects. I hopped into the pool shortly thereafter and swam around a little too. The pool is kind of odd; it's chemically treated somehow, but it isn't chlorinated. Weird.

Other than sunning myself, I didn't do too much today.

"Aloha, y'all!!"

This is how the magic show started tonight.

We went to see Warren and Annabelle's Magic Show in Lahaina tonight. It was a pretty cute little operation. The entrance is a small elevator sized room with four doors; they give you a "magic key" and you have to figure out how to get into the lounge from here.

Once into the lounge, we got some appetizers and drinks. "Annabelle" is a ghost - and she plays the piano in the lounge. She answers questions with songs, and takes requests from the audience. She can also see what people in the room are doing. Just as the show was about to start, Warren (the magician) came out and judged a "name that tune" contest with Annabelle playing the music. My cousin Linda (the professional singer) won the contest and got a free drink.

The magic show was pretty solid overall. Warren, the magician, had a thick southern accent, and was a huge fan of the Andy Griffith Show. As he went on with the show, he picked members of the audience and named them as characters from Mayberry - Gomer, Goober, Otis, Floyd, and Aunt Bea. He had two really feature tricks, one where he changed the time on a watch without ever touching it, and another where he joined three men's wedding rings together. He really kept the audience rolling in the aisles, he had some great jokes and comebacks.

When the show was wrapping up, Warren got rounds of applause for all the people sitting in his hot seats - he asked the one older man who kept being as his straight man the whole act (that he referred to as "Gomer") what he did for a living. "Gomer" replied that he was a minister. Warren got a look on his face that was priceless; he was shocked, and looked like he felt genuinely bad for picking on this guy the whole show - the audience totally lost it though, it couldn't have been more perfect.

If there was any shortcoming to the show, it was that Annabelle wasn't worked into the magic act very well. They had the piano playing out in the lounge, and there was a little description of the legend of Annabelle in the drink menu - but that was pretty much the extent of her participation. It was still a good time though, we all laughed our fool heads off, and pretty cheap.

Last Words

God dammit. I missed two small spots near my elbows, and I got nasty little sunburns. ARGH! What a pain. And the rest of me is still pretty pale. *sigh*

Night night!
