- Managed a major server technology refresh,
replacing and consolidating three dozen older Enterprise-class servers
with SUNFire servers, ranging from V120's to E2900's. Servers were
SAN-attached through Qlogic and McData switches to EMC Clariion and
Symmetrix storage. Production data (3.5 Tbytes) was replicated over ten
miles to the new data center using a combination of Veritas Volume Manager
(software) and Nishan IP Storage switches.
- End-to-end storage provisioning for SUN and W2K
hosts using EMC tools (ECC, Connectrix Manager, and Navisphere) on
Clariion storage. Clariion CX700 disk arrays with director-level EMC
ED-140m switches. Troubleshot host-based connectivity issues related to
EMC software (PowerPath, Navisphere, ECC client software and third-party
HBA's .)
- Acted as the local subject-matter expert for
Solaris, Veritas Storage Foundation and Veritas Cluster Server. Installed
and configured multiple VCS clusters. Allocated. managed, and deployed
LUNS from the EMC storage to servers using the EMC Navisphere gui and cli.
- Successfully deployed peered DHCP and slave DNS
servers in remote Houghton Mifflin sites, replacing
single-point-of-failure servers instances with peered, highly-available
services built from BIND 9.24 and DHCP 3.0.1 on Solaris9. Deployed VoIP
phones on peered DNS/DHCP Solaris infrastructure in HMCO's new data
center.

Senior Consulting Engineer
- On-site Systems Administrator at Investor's Bank
and Trust, Boston. Day to day duties included management of multiple SUN
4800/6800 frames. Servers were SAN-attached via Brocade switches to
Hitachi Data Systems 9960 disk arrays. Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) and
Veritas Foundation Suite was used to provide high availability and storage
management. Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR) was used to provide
asynchronous replication to a secondary disaster recovery site.
- Managed and allocated HDS 9960-based storage
resources among multiple hosts in a production environment; responded to
unplanned system failovers within a production VCS environment. Provided
7x24 support to BMC Patrol monitored systems.
- Successfully implemented and tested Disaster
Recovery testing, using Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR) and Veritas
Cluster Server to keep two geographically separated (3000 miles) sites in
sync. Successfully failed over Oracle instances locally within a cluster,
then across the continent to a DR site in California, and back to Boston.
- Project-based storage consulting for an
industry-leading professional services firm based in Atlanta. Day to day duties
included short and long term assignments designing and implementing
storage solutions using Veritas software products wrapped around SUN
servers and storage. Specializing in Veritas Foundation Suite, Veritas
Cluster Server, and Veritas Netbackup.
- Designed and implemented a cold-failover
solution for a CTS client using SUN 3510 storage, SUN 1280 servers,
Brocade switches, ADIC Scalar 10000's, Veritas Netbackup with HSM, and
Veritas Foundation Suite.
- Stabilized a Netbackup environment involving
Netbackup 4.5 Shared Storage Option and multiple media servers spread over
six E15000 domains. Other components included Brocade switches, Crossroads
routers, and mixed fiber (EMULEX and JNI) hbas. Successfully resolved SCSI
transport issues in the shared storage that were preventing reliable
backups. Added additional media servers and RMAN/Netbackup clients.

- Built and deployed multiple Veritas NetBackup

- Performed senior-level Systems Integration
engagements for a major SUN Microsystems Reseller. Expert design and

- Planned, managed, and executed a 30-node,
multi-city Y2K remediation project for a major cable and Internet
provider. Work included hardware and software upgrades to 30-plus production
machines in twelve cities.
- Planned, managed, and executed the replacement
of a production network DMZ (proxy-server, DNS server, mail servers, web
server, firewall) at a local test equipment manufacturer. The DMZ replaced
protected a full Class B network with multiple zones and security
