Rol, I like your idea of comparing New Product Introduction to the
Change process. In fact I have recently completed a project with a
manufacturing company here in the UK to do exactly this.

As a part of a business development programme we used a simple change
model as the template for designing a New Product Introduction process
from initial marketing through to delivery of new products to
customers along the way considering overall product and manufacturing
strategies. It has been a tremendous success. The biggest
breakthrough is that people in the business are now able to see the
process and one of continual change instead of sporadic launches.

The outline of the model is
1. Spot the Need
2. Understand the Need
3. Define and Understand Objectives
4. Identify Obstacles and Opportunities
5. Select &/or Design Development Tools
6. Develop Solutions
7. Compare the solutions with Now
8. Identify Implementation Issues & Plan
9. Implement
10. Monitor Performance of the Process and against the Plan
11. Review and Support

oh and of course don't forget to start all over again from the
beginning!

Yours

Matthew
