My two penn'orth on this.

First penn'orth: Trust, like quality, is an outcome. To me, trust is the
residue, the deposit that gets built (or drawn upon) when
promises/commitments are kept (broken).

Second penn'orth: being trusting (rather than mistrustful) is probably the
most *cost-effective* strategy in a complex, uncertain world in which
*most* people mean you no harm.
