Replying to LO12671 --

" Second identify measures of performance which will be applied to
individuals for their team participation, and also measures for the team's
performance which will be part of the individual's rating.

Third spell out how measurement data will be collected, and who will do
the individual' s rating....."

If this gets the desired result, good. Here is another perspective that I
believe will get a desired result, particularily in an environment where
we need innovation to improve something or to create something new.

In this case I would recommend that there be no measurement of individual
performance within a team. The aim after all should be how the output of
the team moves us toward the attainment of nominal value, optimization of
the entire system.

If this is so, chaos -order, then I know that I cannot predict nor
seperate the effect of an individual's action upon the future output of
the system.

As a "supervisor" it would seem to me that I would be most productive if I
help all the members of the team and provide them with the resources and
the "safe" learning environment to move toward attainment of the aim.
Judging individuals creates fear and destroys the "safe " environment.

As long as I am judging ( attempting to measure individual performance),
or even the perception thereof, focus will be upon me and my measurement
system as opposed to system optimization.

I know that I cannot predict the benefit to the system of the application
of a "pure" thought . And.... they will only emerge contingently. This is
where I , the "supervisor" can redirect my efforts and work upon creating
the environment that will allow this emergence.
