Cross-Functional TEAM PARTICIPATION"

Dear Learning-org List Server Community:

I am working at University of South Florida, and I would like to solicit
anyone's insight into an issue concerning "the Compensation of Team
Participation".

Currently, the University is wrestling with many Re-engineering issues. A
few of these issues touch upon the University's need to create a
"structural model" that would Compensate Administration, Faculty, and
Staff for Team Participation "alongside" their current responsibilities
(i.e., the job description) on a results-oriented basis.

Of course this issue traditionally implies a trade-off of Individual
Employment responsibilities to the organization, with the sometimes
overwhelming demand Cross-functional Team Participation/Contribution may
require (which is always at the expense of individual contribution to the
particular department).

It would seem that this problem is a Structural one, due to the implied
"zero-sum" trade-off.

Our dilemma, then, would concern the University's need for insight into a
new/different organizational structure/model/paradigm that would help to
resolve this concern (vis., How to resolve "Individual Compensation VS.
Team Participation, and move toward "Individual AND Team Participation
Compensation Packages"; while maintaining a coherent respect for balancing
results with process?

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Respectfully yours,

Gregory D. Chapman
