On the subject of influencers within the system - or STAKEHOLDERS. I
reckon that theoretically everybody and anybody who will be or feel as if
they are affected by the change has a vested interest in whether or not it
succeeds. In practice it may be very difficult to involve absolutely
everybody so I have some simple criteria that I check for when selecting
people for project teams to work on business development programmes.

I look for ...

1. People who will contribute actively to the development of a new
approach.

2. People who need to know because the changes will affect their role
significantly.

3. People who actively stand against the changes and will need to be won
over.

4. People who need to know for the development of their own personal
understanding of the business.

5. People who are respected in the organisation and who will influence
others.

This is my list, it is not exhaustive I'm sure, nor do I always manage to
fill all the roles - but I do find it of help.

As an aside - Why? is my favorite subject line of all.

Regards

Matthew
