Andrew makes some very excellent points about ISO 9000. My attitude toward
the standard has radically changed in the last two or three weeks.
I now see the standard as being as narrow or as broad as you chose to make
it. Consequently I no longer believe that there is anything built into the
standard that automatically forces an organization into a "mechanistic
model."
In fact, I'm just wrapping up some Internal Audit-Readiness Training, and
I've used the ISO 9000 framework to paint a vision of a living, breathing
company. I'm quite pleased with the work, despite the fact that I'm it's
author.
I'm very thankful for Joe Podolsky and his friend Bryce, in the UK, for
helping me change my mind.
