Re: Tom Peter's
Tom Peter's is not a creative thinker, but a popularizer of trends
which others have initiated or created. His devil-may-care personality
makes an ideal target for people who like a more systematic approach to
explaining what is happening. I believe he serves as an entry point for a
lot people to ideas and behaviors which might seem unrelated to their
particular situation. If he did not exist, he would need to be created
because of the particular service he provides. He is a manic observer of
corporate life. Because of that his thought process is not neat or
orderly, but chaotic. I've found much benefit from reading him. I don't
build my work around his work, but I do read him as at least one
chronicler of what is ocurring in organizations. Yes, it could be argued
that he misreads these trends and changes, but I guess we could all be
open to that criticism at one level or another. And yes, he has sold a
lot of books, and my guess they are more read than many of the experts
texts.
My question for everyone...Has anyone actually used and used
profitably Peters' Business School in a Box? That work may be a better
reflection of his limitations as a creative innovator.
