I am a newbie to this list. Part of the reason for joining was to obtain
information about broadbanding. Can anyone direct me to a list, a URL, or
any other source of information on broadbanding or carreer bands?

TIA

[Host's Note... I asked Phil, "What is broadbanding?" and this is what he
sent me. ...Rick]

The Information Technology Systems group at the University of Iowa is
looking into the concept of broadbanding. As we understand the term, it
entails moving from many job classifications (over 100 at UI) to three or
four broad career bands. Within those bands, staff members would progress
by increasing their competencies, rather than by changing job
classifications.

This allows, as we envision the process, a lot more flexibility for the
"flatter," team-driven organization in a rapidly changing environment, and
for the staff member, who wants to make him(her)self more employable by
increasing job competencies.

At this time, we are starting a search for information. We would like to
find people and printed material who (which) can increase our small pool
of knowledge. The LO list was the closest I could come when I searched the
newsgroups.

So, ... can you help?
