Peter Senge has popularized -- and in many respects clearly defined -- the
idea of a Learning Organization, but there is a rich and intriguing
history to the whole thing. Shell Oil was interested in it in the 60's and
70's, as well as many other large organizations which I can't remember
right now. (I'd look it up but a good many of my books are at my office,
and I'm at home, making the information inaccessible right now.)

I think you'd find Art Kliener's book, "The Age of Heretics," very
beneficial in your research.
