Several weeks ago, I posted a request asking for the names of compensation
consultants/firms who were working with organizations involved in
continuous learning and self-directed teams. I received a number of
responses and was asked to post what I have learned.

My team and I learned something during this search. Our formal "RFP
(Request for Proposals) process that is used select just about every
service government retains, could potentially exclude a number of firms
from talking with us, and whose skills are in line with what we are
looking for. As a result, we are not doing an RFP. We have found a way
to meet the legal "bidding requirments," by sending out an RFQ (Request
for Qualifications). This simply asks a firm to provide us information
about them and their related experience. It does not require a full-blown
proposal response. This way, qualified firms that do not maintain the
overhead to manufacture proposal responses at will, will not be excluded
from consideration. Valuable lesson for us to use in the future. We are
also going to request that firms doing both governmental and private
sector work give us information about their work in both the public and
private arena related to LO's and teams. Typically, these firms will just
hand us public sector engagement information. ...and we wonder why we
keep getting the same old thing.

Please send me a private e-mail if you would like a list of the firms we
have compiled for consideration.
