Dr. Judith Bardwick wrote a book called "Danger in the Comfort Zone" which
I read and then sponsored a discussion group on. I presented the printed
summary of the dialogue to her and asked for her opinions of the several
issues which were well articulated. She "headed for the hills". Apparently
she felt more comfortable pontificating to gullible executives than
dealing with real people.

There are so many "schlock merchants" around that it is the wise executive
who does their own thing without relying on the latest fadish consultant.
I have participated in two downsizings and certainly can confirm the
trauma that is inflicted. Three of my former cohorts have committed
suicide. This because they were not equipped to handle the rejection
caused by many parties who know little about what is really happening.
Probably ten times that many needed serious help and did not get it.

One employee who I personally fired still has not forgiven me even though
she now has a much better job. She really wants to shoot the messanger!
