I would suggest a good exercise is to question ALL the asssumptions.
Especially the ones that do not ask to be questioned! At least doing an
inventory of all the assumptions can creat a measure of focus or
awareness. Many times we charge forward without even being aware of our
assumptions.

One assumption that I have questioned to stimulate alternative views of
the future: What would happen if bandwidth (computer networking costs)
dropped by a factor of 1000 and language translation was automatic and
instant? How would our world evolve?
