Julie, I like what you suggest about transforming change into
learning. I have given talks at "change management" conferences
where I've suggested that the word change be dropped and learning or
development take its place.

The idea wasn't popular. (That hasn't stopped me.)

Change has been with us as a major concern ever since early Greek
thinking (at least). Heraclitus was the first I know of to say "you
can't step into the same river twice". Some said "It's all change."
Others said "It's basically stable with change occurring sometimes."
In the West, the stable metaphor won hands down.

I suggest that we use change to mark the process of life - constant
change, what's happening around us, etc. And learning or development
to talk about what we are intending, what we are initiating, etc.
