You may find "Secret's of H-P's 'Muddled Team'" in Fortune, 18 March 1996,
pages 60-63 of interest.

Two managers put together a team of 35 people from Hewlett-Packard and two
outside suppliers to undertake a complex process reengineering exercise.
The managers idea was to create a sense of personal ownership and
commitment by developing an integrated team, in which there were no
supervisors, no hierarchy, no job descriptions, no plans and no
step-by-step milestones. The team were required to take an holistic view
of the project. The pilot project, which focused on a single important
customer, was completed in eight months rather than nine. Deliveries were
made in eight days rather than the 26 days previously. As a result, the
customer was able to cut inventories by 20% whilst increasing their
customer service levels.

Best wishes.
