Replying to LO10617 --

Joseph Juran's "Managerial Breakthrough" is a sensible, timeless
methodology which not only explains breakthrough in a way that shouldn't
(but can probably still) be misinterpreted. I believe it has been
recently revised and reissued, although I still use the original to break
me back to reality after have read something "new" on reengineering. The
model Juran uses is indeed the one contrasted in the Kaizen model. It
implies a step-like change model as opposed to the ramp of Kaizen. Juran
suggests innovation controlled by planning and feedback (the
project-by-project improvement system) and, as Tom Peters has recently
begun (continued?) to espouse the use of project management technique as
both the planning and control elements necessary to reach improvement.
