(as always...thanks Rol)

> goals of corporations?

From a coporation, security and stability of the corporation is
paramount...but you need to define that security and stability. You
can have huge amounts of change, personal disruption and upheavals of
corporation structures when viewed internally. But externally
companies like IBM have always appeared strong and stable.

> Are they anathema to creativity?

Personal security and stability is only anathema to creativity if that
security and stability is all-encompassing. Without some risk, people
will naturally float towards comfort rather than discomfort, to easy
rather than difficult. It's during the most difficult times that
people are most creative and personally grow.

> On the other hand, does down-sizing, which creates insecurity and
> instability, contribute to increased creativity?

Increased personal creativity is often a result...not as much by those
affected by the layoffs, but the remainder who are already high
performers often become creative...sometimes to the expense of the
corporation.

> If I were a corporation, how would I increase creativity? How would

Good questions...maybe by being as open as possible about the
marketplace, the changes, the fluctuations and the rapid decline
that can happen if things aren't focused every day.
