To a 15th century hill farmer (or even his 20th century descendant) it
matters little whether the sun goes round the earth or vice versa, but it
makes a big difference if you are Columbus sailing to the Indies.

Similarly, for most of us, most of the time the Newtonian paradigm serves
us well. The big question is how to tell when it no longer does.
