Thanks to John, Ivan, and Roxanne and others for excellent insights into
intrinsic motivation. My question " Can intrinsic motivation exist in an
organization if the relevance and importance of the job is perceived ONLY
by the worker?" seems silly in light of the insights shared by LO members.
Thanks for pointing out that "intrinsic" is inside the person and even
negative influencers can bind people to a job. Ivan mentions the social
supports & benefits of a job even when it is group griping after work or
over coffee.

While this is so, I tend to agree with Roxanne that only the mighty (?)
can withstand working in an environment of negativity. Negativity breeds
negativity and deflects people from their goals, corporate and personal.
