We also worked to change internal DNR culture. This cultural change
portion of our responsibilites was our greatest challenge. For 25 years,
protecting the environment was a calling, and regulators fashioned
themselves to be environmental champions. We asked that they change not
only their approach to protecting the environment, but their view of
themselves vis a vis the regulated community. What a wonderful challenge
that was!
Prior to my work with the Wisconsin DNR, I was the supervising attorney
for the Superfund Program within the Montana Department of Health and
Environmental Sciences. I left the practice of law to pursue my interest
in management, and received my Masters in Public Administration from the
University of Wisconsin's LaFollette Institute.
I am an avid reader of the leadership and quality literature and subscribe
to the belief that excellence is not achieved through moderation. Rather
it is achieved through radical action.
I am looking for a management position in a company 1) managed by
innovative thinkers who are committed to leading the company (and its
industry) in new directions; 2) open to creative ideas from unusual
sources, and willing to experiment with these creative ideas; 3) dedicated
to quality, empowerment, and unleashing people's energy, creativity and
spirit; and 4) committed to creating an atmosphere where employees can
become heroes.
I look forward to interacting with many of you in the future.
