I have been a silent observer for awhile, and thought it time I introduce
myself. My name is Tom Eggert, and while I currently work for the
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, this is but a stop while I look
for a new opportunity to be challenged and have fun in a learning
organization. That is not to say that I haven't had any fun while I have
been here. I headed the Pollution Prevention Program for the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources since 1994. I assembled a fabulous team (a
sort of skunk-works) that accomplished more than anyone thought possible.
We talked extensively with businesses, we listened, and we created new and
productive relationships.

We also worked to change internal DNR culture. This cultural change
portion of our responsibilites was our greatest challenge. For 25 years,
protecting the environment was a calling, and regulators fashioned
themselves to be environmental champions. We asked that they change not
only their approach to protecting the environment, but their view of
themselves vis a vis the regulated community. What a wonderful challenge
that was!

Prior to my work with the Wisconsin DNR, I was the supervising attorney
for the Superfund Program within the Montana Department of Health and
Environmental Sciences. I left the practice of law to pursue my interest
in management, and received my Masters in Public Administration from the
University of Wisconsin's LaFollette Institute.

I am an avid reader of the leadership and quality literature and subscribe
to the belief that excellence is not achieved through moderation. Rather
it is achieved through radical action.

I am looking for a management position in a company 1) managed by
innovative thinkers who are committed to leading the company (and its
industry) in new directions; 2) open to creative ideas from unusual
sources, and willing to experiment with these creative ideas; 3) dedicated
to quality, empowerment, and unleashing people's energy, creativity and
spirit; and 4) committed to creating an atmosphere where employees can
become heroes.

I look forward to interacting with many of you in the future.
