Replying to LO9240 and LO9279:

In LO9240, Glenn Marchi inquired about existing surveys or checklists to
determine if an organization is a learning organization.

In LO9279, Bill Hendry mentioned the "Organizational Learning Inventory"
which I developed with Ed Nevis and Janet Gould from MIT. Use of the OLI was
described in a Dec '95 article in the SystemsThinker by Marilyn Darling, who
is licensed in our program. Bill solicited this response when he noted that
"Tony and Marilyn were members of this listserv - are you both out there?"

Yes, Bill, I'm here, just back from a week of sailing.

In previous contributions to this list, I described the OLI and its uses. I
presume that those notes are available in the archives. There is too much
material and too many issues to summarize here.

Article reprints and information about the OLI are available via requests
snail-mailed to me. (Phone calls are welcome as well.) This fall there will
be some opportunities to converse in person which would be much more
satisfying. Marilyn and I are doing separate presentations about the OLI at
the SystemsThinker conference in San Francisco in early October. The
following week, I will be at the Organization Development Network conference
in Orlando and, in November, at the American Evaluation Association
conference in Atlanta. Please look me up at these conferences, to talk about
our program "Developing Organizational Learning Capability" or to just say
'hello'.

Oh, and yes, the sailing was fine.
