Steven,

Here's my limited knowledge and experience about 'Feng Shui'.

For a start you may want to start using a term more popularly known in the
English speaking world - GEOMANCY. Feng Shui has its origins in Chinese
history and literally translates 'wind / water'. The 'Feng Shui' expert, or
geomancer, considers the five core elements of earth, fire, gold, water, and
wood and gives advice as to, yes, the 'placement', positioning of doorways,
homes, entire buildings..... the details of which I am not clear of, except
that it provides some assurance of future prosperity. The closest western
(scientific) equivalent of geomancy is perhaps the study of electro-magnetic
waves and the influence of geopathic zones.
