David Crimmin writes about Rol Fessenden's comments....

>While the term "learning styles" may be used here loosely to describe a
>system that is not serving its constituents well, my experience is that
>learning styles as we think of them do not break down on clear racial or
>gender lines.

My response: Certainly learning styles do not necessarily break down along
racial lines (and that is not really the point as I understand it), but the
general point Rol makes is that the system is out of sync with the needs of
its constituents/customers. As one who is involved in that system every
day, and who is trying to change it, I agree. To the extent the system is
the product of white male expertise and dominance, it is so geared.

Yet, there are those of opposite race and gender who are suppportive of the
school system as it is, supportive of the status quo. Ergo, the issue is
not so much racial or gender oriented as it status quo oriented.

I agree with David that the "goal of educational reform should be to
>insure that *ALL* students are served well by the system." The system is
not set up to do that in today's world, and that is the problem.
