Some concepts may appear as if they represent a big theoretical advance or
innovation, but it is hard to pintpoint what that really is (e.g. MBO).
What was the big deal about this one? Other concepts are just killed by
those of us who teach and/or implemented. We don't care enough to really
understand them and to share that understanding with our clients
(students, business people, etc.). Whenever there is a new concept, there
will be a huge number of "experts" in the matter out there... Sometimes
it is the short time frame most managers have to get things done. You come
in with a new concept and if they have to wait for more than six months to
appreciate the results, they might already trying something else by
them...

What you say about the connections is very important. Infortunately, what
we do is exactly the opposite. We do not try to present concepts in a
holistic way (or it might that we don't know how), and we made every
effort to distance a new concepts from others. For instance, I see that
LO has given new life and a higher level meaning to TQM/CQI concepts,
which are very important learning tools. I see that LO has even given new
meaning, (according to Ivan Blanco), to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

As was emphaiszed earlier, we cannot anticipate all the consequences of
the systems we implement, but can certainly learn and improve as we
appreciate those consequences. One way of doing that is by looking at the
connections, by studying systems as such: Systems!
