I have been a 'lurker' on this list for a short while because 1)my
organization, a community hospital, is feeling its way within the learning
organization concept and is trying to incorporate learning organization
ideals as part of both vision and practice and 2) I am in a M Ed program,
and having been investigating the LO topic. I will add, as brief
biography, that I am a Master of Library Science degreed director of the
health sciences library at my organization and have been at this role for
20 years;back to school now as I see my role changing significantly with
the growth of end-user access to computerized databases and Internet, and
find myself doing a lot of teaching/navigating of patrons, and trying to
help shape the direction and style of my organization to the extent that I
can.

I appreciate how deeply felt are the values of participants in this list
and how well these feelings are expressed and shared. I thank you all for
the opportunity to participate as both a reader and a writer.

I have not seen these issues discussed recently (I apologize if they have
been raised and I have missed them), and I would be most interested to
read all of your thoughts and comments on the following topics: 1. Chaos
theory and learning organizations. Moving onward from Dr. Wheatley's
work, are you incorporating chaos theory concepts into your practice? How
so, with what results, and any thoughts on this? (The field of adult
education is rife with chaos theory application, which I find fascinating,
and applying this to LO is also fascinating.) 2.The 'chief learning
officer' concept. Do any of you hold this title or similarly titled
position in charge of knowledge management within an organization? If so,
what shape is this role taking, where is it heading, etc., any thoughts or
comments?

Thank you in advance! With best wishes to all,
