I have been reading this thread, but not responding due to time
constraints. I know some of these messages have gotten "old" but there
still seems to be some fertle ground to uncover.

I am always intrigued by a comment such as this, which has appeared in
several forms in this thread. If the source book for the Christian
religion is investigated it has incredible emphasis on personnal mastery
as opposed to just a book of regulations. I am wondering (a real
question) how often this comment is made because many people think they
understand Christianity from a less than ideal Christian experience while
at the same time idealizing the "Eastern religions" which they have little
experience in? I find very intersting the comments of Jyotsna
Pattabiraman which to me indicate that the practice and theory of such
religions can be very different as is obviously the case in the Christian
experience. Generalizing is sooo easy. See, I've done it myself.
