Following Rol and Michael (among others) on values:

Yes, honesty and other values do have situational components - but
that's not the same as saying "since it all depends, there is no honesty"
-a typical criticism of so-called situational ethics. It seems to me that
beneath the apparent controversy is the issue that Michael raised about
responsibility: if I interpret honesty differently, depending on the
audience, I must be prepared to explain myself and to deal with the
consequences my actions create. Perhaps that is the theme that Rol's
thoughtful commentaries have so often underlined: that to be ethical is to
accept responsibility for one's own acts.
