Rol,

Before you opt out, consider that values are emergent from the social
experience of life as it has evolved. We do not have a random and
arbitrary choice of what to value.

But ....

They are also not given and available with certainty. We must choose,
adapt, work out and otherwise be responsible for our own values and for
our own actions in relationship to those values.

And ....

We will have to account for the values we select (or that selected us - if
we didn't do the honest intellectual and living work) to the society and
communities which we find ourselves in by choice or otherwise.

The existential dilemna is with us and all of the fancy theories don't
allow us to escape that. They either help us deal with it or they are
rather useless.
