Replying to LO7823 --

Building on Roberts comments about commitment, e.g.

>I also think that it is perhaps even more significant that there is no
>societal belief in the improvement of "soft," managerial skills analagous
>to the belief in the improvement of technology.

Societal beliefs [in use rather than espoused], or what, in a conversation
that died, Rol and I labelled Self Evident Truths, or what in other
contexts I have called dominant patterns are, I am coming to believe, the
[a perhaps] real key area. If we do not shift the underlying meaning
systems operating at any scale the change in anything else will be
limited.

And yes, I have gradually learnt that in real world situations, tackling
prevailing belief systems head on is not an effective strategy. In a list
like this though I do suggest that examining wider belief systems, and
questioning our own, is a prerequisite of learning.
