I also fall in the same trap more often than what I like to
acknowledge. I find myself using the "them" rather than the "us",
although I know that change, learning, and development cannot fully happen
if we all don't do it. I am just writing a very short piece to a
newspaper in Oklahoma, which published a series of articles, and one of
the deals with "At-Risk Kids." My major contention is that the "right"
expression should be "At-Risk Society." To me the expression At-Risk KIds
does the same thing as the "them" term above. It separates us from the
problem, when it reality we are all very much affected by these things....
