Cues to Hidden Resistance LO7425

In discussing the concept of resistance (I'm taking a graduate
class on Consultation, for mental health counselors), I began to get the
sense that even if clients were verbally agreeing to "go along with the
program," that an insightful consultant could be tipped off to
acquiescence masking resistance, by examining the consultee's language,
e.g., the use of general rather than specific vocabulary...or the focus on
you (the consultant) rather than I/the client (as in, "You know
best...you're in charge", etc.). I am curious to find out not only what
those in the field think, but also what, if any, literature contains good
conceptual models for utilizing higher-order/psycholinguistic listening
skills to decode "false positive" messages, especially within
organizational consulting.

Thanks!
