Benchmarking is a waste of time if you are doing what is right at the
right time.

Let's assume I am in a fast food business. For me to turn a return on
investment I need to have a particular net profit.

I do not need to benchmark one or 100 other fast food outlets to know what
I need to do.

My store can achieve the net profit through simplicity, intensity,
accountability, tenacity, and a positive attitude. In shorter words. Do
what is right at the right time.

If I go to a fast food place and ask for ice tea with lemon and I am told
there is no lemon, I do not accept the ice tea or a substitute.

If I go to a fast food place and ask for a sandwich with a sauce and I am
told they do not have the sauce, I do not accept the sandwich or a
substitute.

If I want mustard on my corn beef and rye - do not try to give me catchup
because the benchmark says people will accept corn beef on rye without
mustard.

Do what is right at the right time.

Keep things on even keel -simplicity, intensity, accountability, tenacity,
and a positive attitude.
