I suggest that managers will not be able to lead, say the "apathetic"
(to use a word from a previous post), until they realise that they
are of the same organism and are therefore also apathetic in some
ways and senses themselves.

It's not just that they need to be empathetic, or discover that they
are this way in other areas of their own lives, they need to discover
that this exists in the organisation and so therefore exists in
themselves.
