COLLEAGUES:

I have just been invited to assist in an alliance between a major inter-
national petrochemical company, an international engineering company and a
regional mechanical contractor at one of the petrochemical company's sites
in this area.

They have formed an alliance intended to support all three in working
differently in such a way that all benefit financially, etc.

I have been asked to work with the leadership teams to begin building the
new behaviors necessary to operationalize the alliance's goals. This
first intervention will be with ~ 24 folks, perhaps 8 from each group.
Ultimately, 500 participants will be included.

I know and have told them that "team-building" USUALLY does not work to
the extent that it often creates a wonderful experience that is followed
by returning to "work as usual." I told them that I have had more luck by
working on real issues in a way that generates teamwork as a byproduct. I
also told them that I would ask colleagues for their ideas on this topic.

So, my question for you is,

What methods work best for you in building team behaviors?

I WILL POST SUMMARY LISTING OF ALL THE RESPONSES.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Regards, Mike
