Andrew can you amplify?. The example intrigues me because Basque is an
island of a separate lingusitic tradition in a sea of Proto-Indo European
[Basically the Basque linquistic heritage has survived over ca. 5,000
years] despite colonisation of most of the continents of Europe and
America [plus chunks of others] by variants of P Indo European [I got the
story from Jared Diamonds Third Chimpanzee BTW]
