The definition of Leadership I currently use is as follows:
Leadership: Generating Results IN Others.
Leadership is the facilitation, coaching, nurturing and empowerment of
people, so that using their skills, expertise and ideas, they produce the
results. Leadership is continuously increasing efficiency, productivity,
initiative, ownership, and creativity by providing direction,
acknowledgment, challenges, and support.
I am also very fond of this Chinese poem on leadership:
Go to the people
Learn from them
Love them
Start with what they know
Build on what they have
But of the best leaders
When their task is accomplished
Their work is done
The people will remark:
"We have done it ourselves."
