After thinking over Dave Birren's and some other comments, I think I
should change this to;

"If you'll agree with me that a goal is increased people's well-being and
living standards world wide, then LO is a means toward that goal."

That's still a bit iffy because "increased" assumes there's some sort of
reference level of well-being and living standards.
