I have been thinking about this some more prompted mostly by something my
husband Dave said in a mailing after I forward the original posting in
this thread:

So what does that say about the lack of new language on this list
as perceived by Francis in his original posting ...?? are we looking
for new language or new uses of old language .....? - for example I
see dialogue afresh since reading the Senge fieldbook beautiful
explanations of its roots... possibly we may need to go back to
the roots of words as well as coining new ones...
and does transformation begin with new language ... or does the
experience of transfomation leave us wanting new ways of
describing the experience ...

and did re-engineering per se triumph .. or just the term as the
new word which most often described the experience which people felt
they had been through .. something more than process
improvement/review/innovation or simplification - perhaps people
felt more than processes had been affected...
I am now wondering if that is why the term *Total* stuck so well and
is so often attached to Deming based change programmes (even though
he wished to be disassociated with TQM as a term) because total was
a word which best described people's appreciation of the
transformation which was required and the new mind-sets which were
needed...
my preferred term for what I feel all this stuff is about
at the moment is 'whole system' .. because it conjures up so much
of what I believe I have learnt (my enlightenment/revalation!) over
the last few years...
.... anyone else got terms which they like to use to describe their
learning or expereinces (emlightenments/revelations)?? perhaps that
will uncover some of the neologisms Francis was expecting....
